A motorcycle thief has no regrets. After only six months out of prison, he’s already at it again. This time, the theft targeted a place of worship (a mosque) on Tuesday (January 6th), at the Jatiuwung Police Station, Tangerang City Metro Police, and Jakarta Metro Police.

The perpetrator was arrested by police when he was caught trying to sell the proceeds of the theft, a motorcycle.

The swift action of the Jatiuwung Police Station, Tangerang City Metro Police, has successfully uncovered a motor vehicle theft (curanmor) case that occurred in the Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City.

In this investigation, police arrested one perpetrator, identified as SAR (25).

Jatiuwung Police Chief, Commissioner Rabiin, S.H., explained that the theft occurred on Friday (January 2nd, 2026).

At around 4:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) in the courtyard of the Baitulrohman Mosque, Keroncong Permai Housing Complex, Keroncong Village, Jatiuwung District.

“The perpetrator was apprehended after being caught by residents in the Curug District, Tangerang Regency.

Following coordination between police stations, the perpetrator and the evidence were then taken to the Jatiuwung Police Station for further questioning,” said Police Commissioner Rabiin.

Based on the investigation, the perpetrator admitted to having stolen two motorcycles within the Jatiuwung Police Station jurisdiction: on December 23, 2025, and January 2, 2026.

The perpetrator was not alone in carrying out his actions; he was assisted by a friend with the initials D (a fugitive) who is currently being sought by the police.

“The perpetrator used a fake key or letter T to damage the ignition of the victim’s Yamaha Mio motorcycle,” he added.

Police seized evidence from the perpetrator, including a Yamaha Mio motorcycle and a T-shaped key.

The perpetrator is known to be a repeat offender in motorcycle theft cases and had only been released from prison for approximately six months.

He is currently being held at the Jatiuwung Police Station and charged under Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which concerns aggravated theft.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating the case to track down the other perpetrators on the wanted list.

Meanwhile, Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Dr. Raden Muhammad Jauhari, S.H., S.I.K., M.Si., urged the public to increase their vigilance against motor vehicle crimes.

“We urge the public to always be careful and use double locks when parking their vehicles, especially in public areas.

The public’s active role is crucial by immediately reporting to the police or contacting the 110 Call Center if they witness or know of any crime,” the Police Chief emphasized.

The Tangerang City Metro Police reaffirmed their commitment to continue taking firm action against street criminals to maintain public safety and order.
